How to Optimize Your Blog
You don’t have to be a SEO expert to optimize the content on your website, especially if you have a blog. Many people enjoy writing a blog, whether it’s for fun or to add content to their website, but the real benefit of a blog is search engine optimization (SEO). If you don’t know how to optimize your blog you’re not really reaping the real benefit of having one. Here are some simple steps you can take to optimize your blog like a pro!
1. Quantity and Quality of Content
Quality of content is the number one most important key to optimizing any blog, or any content really. If you are not offering your audience quality content – more than the basics – then they have no reason to read the content. Additionally, while you don’t want to bombard your audience with a ton of information, you do want to at the very least give a substantial and cohesive amount of information about the topic of your article. A good rule of thumb is to keep your word count between 300-500 words.
Even if your website is not a Worpress platform your blog can still be hosted on WordPress. Simply connecting your blog to your site will still generate website traffic plus you get to use a very strong platform to host your blog. WordPress has a variety of plugins that allow any user to take simple steps to optimize the content on their WordPress website or blog. These easy programs allow any user to optimize their content like a pro.
I think everyone hates hearing or reading about keywords. Unfortunately, the importance of keywords cannot be diminished. Not only do you want your blog to have keywords, you also want the title of your blog and the description of your blog to contain a keyword. If the keywords are how a user will find your blog (or website) then this should also be at the top of the priority list. WordPress also has some great plugins to help you search for and know what the best keywords are directly related to your business.
What is back-linking? It is when you link a word or phrase to another site. It’s that simple. So in your blog content, you want to have at least 3 outbound links (links to information outside of your website) and at least 2 inbound links (links to information inside of your website). Links go a long way for increasing your SEO so don’t skip this step!
Last but not least, use visuals! A picture, a video, any kind of visual will significantly improve your blog. Use can use pictures to break up the content, attach a video along with your blog, even a slideshow. A visual will also give you the opportunity to add keywords to the title, description, or tag in that visual, increasing your SEO!
